| Dr.
Sirbasku offers individual, family, and group therapy. Individual
and family therapy sessions usually last for one hour, and can include
a child alone, the child with parent or other family members present,
the parent/parents alone, or an adult alone. The initial session involves
obtaining background information and establishing therapy goals. The
participants in the therapy session are chosen once it is determined
who it will be most helpful to include in the therapeutic process.
Sessions are usually held once a week at the beginning and then decreased
to every other week or once a month once certain treatment goals are
met. In each session, the interventions implemented address the therapy
goals. Dr. Sirbasku collaborates with other professionals involved
in the client’s treatment, such as psychiatrists, primary care
physicians, pediatricians, speech therapists, occupational therapists,
and teachers. Group therapy allows clients to benefit from one
another’s experiences and provides real time opportunities
to practice new skills. Group therapy sessions, which usually last
for an hour and a half, meet either weekly or twice a month for
a total of 8-10 sessions. Examples of groups offered by Dr. Sirbasku
include:
Social
Skills groups for children with an autism spectrum disorder
Self-Esteem groups for middle school and high school-aged girls
Parent Groups for parents of newly-diagnosed children with an
autism spectrum disorder
